Lucknow: BJP’s star campaigner for Uttar Pradesh bypolls Yogi Adityanath, on Wednesday, defied the model code of conduct and held a rally in Lucknow without having the requisite permission for the same.
Sitting atop a truck at the busy Munshi Pulia crossing in Lucknow east assembly segment, along with other BJP leaders, Mr Adityanath said, “For the betterment of Uttar Pradesh, we have to fight against the state government’s dictatorship and undemocratic ways.”
Returning officer and district magistrate Raj Shekhar said that the speech of the BJP leader had been videographed and the EC would decide what action is to be taken on the issue.
“We were assessing the situation because there was an apprehension of a clash between SP and BJP supporters, especially after a video clip showed Mr Adityanath making a controversial statement on love jihad two days ago,” said an official.
Congress leader Rashid Alvi who was also in Lucknow to campaign for his party, meanwhile said that the BJP is known to incite communal riots and action should be taken against Yogi Adityanath.
