Telangana government gives Rs 1 crore to Sania Mirza for US Open win
The CM urged Sania to make a Telangana a popular stated in her capacity as its brand ambassador
Hyderabad: The Telangana government on Thursday felicitated tennis ace Sania Mirza for her recent victory in the US Open mixed doubles and presented her a cheque of Rs one crore.
"Sania, who is the brand ambassador for Telangana, met Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao here, where he appreciated her for winning the title and wished that she win the upcoming China Open and Japan Open as well," a release from the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) said.
Sania was given Rs 1 crore prior to the US Open event, in which she was successful, and another Rs 1 crore was handed over to her today on the behalf of the state government, it said.

The CM urged Sania to make a Telangana a popular stated in her capacity as its brand ambassador and also the image of Hyderabad as she is a "child of Hyderabad", according to a media release.
In her reply, Sania thanked the CM for the felicitation. "I would like to thank him (Rao) very much for this felicitation. He told me he was very proud. I think we are working together to try and bring Telangana on the world map. I would like thank him very much for this gesture and also thank him very much for his trust in me," the release quoted Sania as saying.
