Chennai: A day before the release of a Tamil film, Vanavarayan Vallavarayan starring Kreshna, Monal Gajjal, Anand, and leading comedy actor Santhanam, a city civil court in Chennai stayed its release on Thursday till September 18.

When the petition filed by Ms W Shobana Diamond of Fast Track iSense came up for hearing on Thursday,  XII assistant city civil court judge Govindaraj passed an interim order directing the respondents not to release the film till September 18. Counsel for the petitioner M. Sneha submitted that the film directed by Raja Mohan and with music by Yuvan Shankar Raja had been produced by Ms K.S. Madhubala of Mahalakshmi Movies.

Suresh Sathiah, the original proprietor and husband of the petitioner, had paid Rs 1.10 crore to the producer , hoping to obtain the assignment copyright of the movie. He came to know that the producer had entered into an agreement with Sri Devar Pictures for the entire rights. Sri Devar Pictures, in turn, had assigned the world satellite rights and other rights to a private television channel. The producer also gave rights of theatrical release of the movie to Zero Rules Entertainment.

The petitioner filed a complaint. Meanwhile, the producer agreed to return Rs 1.10 crore. However, Madhubala paid only Rs 25 lakh. They gave post dated cheques for the remaining '85 lakh. However, when the cheques were presented in the bank they were dishonoured due to insufficient funds in the account.

Learning about this, the original proprietor, Suresh Sathiah, the husband of the petitioner, suffered a massive cardiac arrest and died on September 4, 2014. The counsel Sneha contended that the producers and others, colluded with each other to cheat the petitioner of '85 lakh and proposed to release the movie on September 12. She prayed that the court restrain the producers and others from releasing the film.
