Movie Review ‘Power’: It is a typical Ravi Teja film
There are a few loopholes, but finally, the film is a mass masala film with action, entertainment and glamour
Director: K S Ravindra (Bobby)
Cast: Ravi Teja, Hansika Motwani, Reginna Cassandra, Brahmanandam, Brahmaji
Rating: 3 stars
Yet another director made his debut and this time writer K S Ravindra, turns to director with ‘Power’. Ravindra provided the story for Ravi Teja’s earlier film ‘Balupu’ and now got this opportunity to direct Ravi Teja. Hansika Motwani played the female lead, while Regina Cassandra plays second female lead.
The story goes like this. In a Kolkatta court the media is waiting for a don Ganguly (Sampath Raj) to be presented in the court. He is the younger brother of the State Home Minsiter Jaya Vardhan (Mukesh Rishi) and he makes way to escape his brother with the help of police. ACP Baldev Sahay (Ravi Teja) enters the scene and nabs Ganguly and in this chase Baldev’s vehicle smashed into the sea from the hilltop. He is reportedly killed in the blast and labeled as a corrupt officer.
Now the scene shifts to Hyderabad where Thirupathi (Ravi Teja), brother-in-law of CI Animuthyam (Brahmanandam), an aspiring police officer. Thirupathi’s aim is to become a police officer and even wears his brother-in-law uniform and solves the cases. He meets Nirupama (Hansika), the fortune changer and also gives miracle stones for a better future. Both Thirupathi and Nirupama fall in love. One day Home Minister Jaya Vardhan saw Thriupathi on TV and shocked as he looks the same like ACP. The rest of the story is what happened to Thirupathi and what is the link between him and the ACP.
Director K S Ravindra successful as a writer and now turns to direction. He chooses a script which is an old formula, but he comes up with loads of entertainment. Though some of the scenes are typical film kind of, like wearing somebody’s khakhi uniform and solving cases like a police, but in the end it’s all entertainment. The director very cleverly used the Brahmanandam character and there are a quite few punch dialogues. There are a few films came earlier with these kinds of subjects. The second half is a little bit confusing where too many flashbacks comes and the difference between Thirupathi and ACP.
When it comes to the performance Ravi Teja plays the cop with ease. For him it’s a typical Ravi Teja kind of character and the way he uttered the dialogues it suits only for him. Though the age factor is there, but he carried the film throughout with his performance. Hansika is looking glamorous and pretty and does her part well with ease. Regina played the second lead and felt her presence. She looks neat and does her job neatly. Though her role is short, but she makes her mark in the film.
Once again Brahmanandam played a key role and provided the laughs. The scenes between Ravi Teja and Brahmanandam and the baddies with Brahmanandam are hilarious. Another comedian Saptagiri played as Hansika’s assistant and he too manage with a few laughs. Sampath Raj and Mukesh Rishi played as baddies and for them this is a routine. Brahmaji played as assistant to ACP and he does his job well. SS Thaman provided the music and this time he has come up with some mass ones especially the one where Ravi Teja sung is the highlight. The action scenes well designed and in the second half the violence part is too heavy. There are a few loopholes, but finally, ‘Power’ is a mass masala film with action, entertainment and glamour. It’s a typical Ravi Teja film.
