Hyderabad: Esra Birgin, the former wife of the eighth Nizam  Mukarram Jah, requested Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao to use his good offices to bring back the priceless Nizam’s jewellery for display in Hyderabad. Ms Esra Birgin made this request when she made a courtesy visit to the CM’s camp office on Friday. Sources said she told Mr Rao that the valuable pieces of jewellery, presently locked in the RBI vaults, would be a big treasure for Hyderabad. The treasure, she said, belonged to Hyderabad and should remain here.

Mr Rao assured her that he would take up the issue with the Centre and try to bring back the famed multi-crore jewellery for display in Hyderabad. Though officials described it as a courtesy call, Ms Esra Birgin has been advocating renaming Kasu Brahmananda Reddy Park after Mukarram Jah. Turkey-born Esra was instrumental in restoring the famous Chowmahalla Palace and Falaknuma Palace, presently on lease to a leading hotel chain.
