Karimnagar/Warangal: Elected representatives, former ministers and leaders of the Congress rebuked the TRS-led government over the delay in implementation of crop loan waiver and resolving many other problems relating to farmers in the dharna staged at the collectorate here on Friday.

The Congress planned protest progreammes across the state in protest against the government’s delay in fulfilling the promises made by the TRS.

Jagtial MLA T. Jeevan Reddy said that the government lacked commitment in addressing the problems of farmers. “The TRS had promised that it would waive off crop loans if it comes to power. But, no loan has been struck off so far. As a result, farmers are witnessing many problems and are unable to find means to take loans,” he said.

The delay in waiver of crop loans would make farmers stand to lose the discount of 4 per cent interest offered by the Union government. “The TRS government is duping public by not implementing its poll promises. It is trying to cut down on the number of beneficiaries of welfare schemes by carrying out surveys,” he said.

Karimnagar MP Ponnam Prabhakar said: “In the name of committees, the government had delayed loan waiver. Scores of distressed farmers committed suicide in the recent past. Crop loans should be waived off at the earliest,” he said.

In Warangal, leaders of the Congress staged a dharna at Ekashila Park here on Friday in protest against the TRS’s  failure in fulfilling promises made in its election manifesto. Initially, the party members planned to stage a dharna at the collectorate but later shifted to Ekashila Park.

The party demanded for implementation of all the promises made by the TRS in its election manifesto. The party leaders said it was the first of a series of agitation programmes to be taken up by the Congress against the ruling TRS.

Ex- MP Balram Nayak pointed out, “Chief Minister Mr Chandrasekhar Rao, after becoming the Chief Minister, said he would get free electricity within two months from Chattisgarh. Now, he says he will be able to provide free power only after three years.”

Ex-MLA G.V. Ramana Reddy of Bhupally said, “ The delay in implementation of loan waiver scheme and non-issuance of fresh loans has forced some farmers to commit suicide.”

“It is the Congress which carved out Telangana state but the people gave their mandate to the TRS. However, Chief Minister Mr Rao has been betraying people by telling 100 lies in 100 days,” he said.
Ex-MP Sircilla Rajaiah, Dornakal MLA Redya Nayak, Malothu Kavitha, DCCB chairmen Janga Raghava Reddy, DCC president Nayini Rajender Reddy and party activists took part in the protest.
