Hyderabad: Princess Esra Birgin, former wife of the eighth Nizam Prince Mukarram Jah, requested Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao to use his good offices to bring back the priceless Nizam’s jewellery for display in Hyderabad.

Ms Esra made this request when she made a courtesy visit to the CM’s camp office on Friday. Sources said Ms Esra told Mr Rao that the valuable pieces of jewellery presently locked in the RBI vaults would be a huge treasure for Hyderabad, to which it belongs and should remain here.

Mr Rao assured Ms Esra that he would take up the issue with the Centre and strive to bring back the famed multi-crore jewellery for display in Hyderabad. Though officials described it as a courtesy call, the Princess has been advocating renaming Kasu Brahmananda Reddy Park after Mukarram Jah.

Turkey-born Princess Esra was instrumental in restoring the famous Chowmahalla Palace near Charminar and Falaknuma Palace, presently on lease to a leading hotel chain.
