Hyderabad: Smaller states like Haryana, Punjab, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and even Uttarakhand have more districts than Telangana. The Telangana government has been studying whether the creation of new districts has enabled better administration in these states.

Haryana with an area of just 44,212 km has 21 districts, Punjab with 50,362 sq.km has 22 districts, Chhattisgarh with 1,35,190 sq.km has 27, Jharkhand with 79,714 sq.km has 24, Uttarakhand with 53,484 sq.km has 13 districts.

In comparison, Telangana with 1,14, 840 sq.km has just 10 districts, while AP with 1.60 lakh sq.km has only 13 districts. However, the opposition parties say it would have been better if the Telangana government had conducted a thorough survey before identifying new districts in Telangana.
