Policeman killed in royal family feud
Someone from the crowd fired at the police guards and one of them succumbed to injuries
Lucknow: The feud in Congress MP and erstwhile Raja of Amethi, Sanjay Singh’s home took a violent turn on Sunday when a police constable died during a clash between the warring families.
Tensions began escalating when Mr Singh and his second Ameeta were prevented from entering their ancestral palace, ‘Bhupati Bhawan’.
The family feud came out in the open when Mr Singh’s son from his first wife had returned to Amethi in the midst of Lok Sabha elections and began campaigning against Ameeta who was contesting the Sultanpur seat.
A few weeks ago, Mr Singh’s first wife Garima Singh, his son Anant Vikram Singh and daughters with their families had forced their entry into the palace alleging that Ameeta wanted to sell off the property and they would thwart such move.
The locals supported Garima Singh. She and her family began living in the palace.
On Sunday, the Congress MP and his second wife were allegedly prevented from entering the family home by Anant Singh and his supporters, numbering over 500.
This led to an argument that soon turned violent.
The district magistrate said, “Police had to resort to mild lathi charge to disperse the crowd, there was no firing from police. Someone from the crowd fired at our guards who succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.”
