THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: BJP state chief V. Muraleedharan has opened a Pandora’s box by stating that the RSS cadre required only a minute’s notice to avenge the assassination of RSS leader Manoj and that restraint should not be seen as weakness. The central leadership of the BJP has sought an explanation from Mr Muraleedharan on the statement which he made during the Jana Sakthi Sangamam at Thalassery in the presence of BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav on Friday.
A senior RSS leader told DC that Mr Muraleedharan’s speech was unwarranted and that the RSS leaders were caught off guard initially. RSS state leadership is already peeved about the growing factionalism in the state BJP and Mr Muraleedharan is not in the good books of the RSS leadership.
“The murder had created huge sympathy for the BJP. But his speech equated the BJP and the RSS also with the CPM and its murder politics. Moreover, Mr Muraleedharan, who was trying to smoothen the relations between the BJP and RSS in the state, has succeeded only in worsening the situation,” said an RSS leader.
Mr Muraleedharan maintained that what he said was in fact the common sentiments of the BJP workers across the state. RSS state secretary and Prantha Karyavahak P. Gopalankutty Master came to his defence saying his speech was quoted wrongly. “I too was present at the Jana Sakthi Sangamam but I have not brought this (speech) to the notice of the national leadership,” Gopalankutty Master told DC.
