Coimbatore: U.M.T. Raja, a Kovai-based goldsmith and a die-hard fan of AIADMK supremo and Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa, has etched a copper miniature and painted her on a rice grain to welcome her to the city for the ensuing mayoral election campaign.
“I will not be able to hand over these artifacts to her directly. But I would like her to know about it through the media,” he told Deccan Chronicle. The goldsmith had recently expressed his love for his motherland and designed what is claimed to be the world’s smallest gold tricolor to mark the 68th Independence Day.
Now, the artist has painted Amma and her mentor and former Chief Minister MGR, on two grains of rice. “People relate Amma with thalaivar MGR and as a fan of his movies ever since my childhood, I decided that his figure should go with hers,” he said.
The painting of Amma on the rice morsel, Raja said symbolises the effort the Chief Minister has taken to feed the needy through her Amma Unnavagam scheme. He has sculpted miniatures of the two Dravidian leaders in copper. Amma is seen to be standing on top of the world while Anna is seen holding the globe.
“This sculpture signifies that she is not just a Prime ministerial candidate capable of governing a country, she is capable of ruling the world,” he said. He also has a miniature silver pendant made in 2 grams that also has miniatures of Anna and Amma.
