Coimbatore: A 50-year-old petitioner attempted suicide by consuming poison in front of the collector here on Tuesday over the delay in issuing a patta and power connection to his house, built eight years ago in Alandurai.
Angamuthu, a barber from Alandurai, came to the collector's office seeking patta for the land on which he had already built a house. "As he had built a house on poramboke land, the electricity board did not provide power supply," said a policeman attached to the Race Course police station.
Angamuthu consumed poison claiming that his desperate wait for eight long years for a patta and power connection did not fructify. "I waited patiently for so many years, but nothing materialised despite running from pillar to post for obtaining the required documents. Though pattas were given to several others, I didn't get my patta," he claimed.
Angamuthu consumed the pesticide which he had brought in a small bottle, even as he walked towards collector Archana Patnaik to submit the petition. He was immediately rushed to the Coimbatore medical college and hospital (CMCH) in a 108 ambulance. The Race Course police registered a case and investigations are on.
