Humiliated by CBI raid, Assam ex-DGP ends life
He was among five persons whose houses were searched by CBI sleuths for Saradha chit fund scandal

Guwahati: Former Assam director general of police Shankar Barua, whose residence was searched by the CBI on August 28 over the Saradha scam, shot himself dead here on Wednesday. He was rushed to a private hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.
The former DGP, was among five persons whose houses were searched by CBI sleuths in connection with the Saradha chit fund scandal on August 28. The others included former Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, senior Congress MLA Anjan Dutta and filmmaker and singer Sadananda Gogoi.
Family sources said that since then he was mentally depressed and had to be hospitalised twice.
