Drug racket busted in Whitefield, 13 arrested

Apart from the peddlers the others arrested are consumers

Bengaluru: The Narcotics Control Bureau, Bengaluru on Wednesday busted a huge contraband drug racket in the city and arrested 13 people including three drug peddlers under the Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 and seized huge amount of classified drugs from a house in Siddhapura in Whitefield.

Speaking about the operation, Zonal Director, NCB, Bengaluru Sunil Sinha told Deccan Chronicle that on Wednesday night on credible information they raided a house in Siddhapura in Whitefield and seized 61 blots of LSD, 12 gms of MDMA, 4.5 gms of hashish and one and a half kg of ganja.

“We arrested 13 people, including three drug peddlers Babu Kumar from Bengaluru, Sunny Guha from West Bengal and Deepak Jain from Rajasthan,” said Mr. Sinha.

The other accused were reportedly consumers, who had come to purchase the contraband. “Most of them are educated, well placed professionals. A couple of them looked chronic substance abusers,” he added. The arrested were produced before the NDPS court and remanded in judicial custody.

While LSD is a hallucinogen; MDMA is a stimulant drug. Ganja and hashish are derivatives of Indian hemp or cannabis and are sedatives.
