Tirupati: The vigilance and security wing of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams and the Prohibition and Excise sleuths jointly destroyed liquor seized at Alipiri checkpoint which is the gateway to Tirumala over a period of two months on Friday.According to TTD assistant vigilance and security officer B. Kurma Rao, a total quantity of 92,110 ml of liquor – 49,410 ml and 42,700 ml in July and August respectively, was seized by the TTD vigilance sleuths.

In the last six months ending June this year, TTD vigilance sleuths seized 3.81 lakh litres of liquor seized at Alipiri checkpoint. Despite TTD making several efforts to sensitise the visiting pilgrims as well as the locals, employees and co-ntract workers residing atop the hill shrine that consumption of alcohol is prohibited atop Tirumala, efforts to smuggle alcohol through the Alipiri checkpoint has been an evergreen menace.

Meanwhile, Mr Kurma Rao along with assistant excise superintendent  Malla Reddy and other officials destroyed the seized liquor at Alipiri to send a strong message to the offenders yet again that such acts would not be tolerated.
