Tirupati: After the promises of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to turn Tirupati into an IT, educational and an industrial hub, it was the turn of the health minister, Dr Kamineni Srinivas Rao to make another vow, and this time around to turn Tirupati into a medical hub.The minister spent a busy day here by taking part in a series of review meetings, workshops, inaugurations and other programmes at the maternity hospital, SV Medical college, Svims and other places in Tirupati on Friday.
Speaking to media persons later in the evening, the minister said that the state government had sanctioned three medical colleges in Tirupati including the Padmavathi Medical College for Women. He said that the state government had allocated additional funds in the budget to ensure world class medical facilities are extended to the needy and most importantly for the people below the poverty line.
He reiterated that the state government would upgrade the facilities at the state-run hospitals across the 13 districts besides establishing super specialty hospitals in each district. He further said that the state government had decided to enhance the financial support from Rs 2 lakh to Rs2.5 lakh besides allowing 100 more diseases in the list under the NTR Arogya seva scheme.
Dr Srinivas Rao said that the state government had already received Rs1600 crore from the Centre under NRHM and that the state intends to buy close to 150 ambulances for 108 services from the funds.Later, the minister inaugurated multi-head microsco-pe, Procito meter, Pentahead microscope equipment worth Rs52 lakh in the Pathology department at Sri Venkate-swara Institute of Medical Sciences (Svims) on Friday.
