KOLLAM:  Abdul Nasser Madani is a victim of bad politics, according to Syed Abdul Rahman Gilani,  former Delhi University lecturer who was acquitted in the  Parliament attack case in 2001.

“Madani was arrested on false grounds and the allegations against him will not stand in the courts.  Madani had attracted  marginalised communities towards him which turned out to be a threat to those who levelled  terrorism charges against him,” he  told reporters here during his visit to raise funds for the  flood-affected people in  Kashmir.

Criticising the central government, Mr. Gilani said it had failed in managing the Kashmir floods.

“The Army was too late to come to the scene and the Armymen’s  priority  was to rescue their own fellowmen and tourists. This was the cause of stone-pelting in some centres in Kashmir. It was the local people who initiated the rescue and humanitarian operations. The government has not learnt any lesson from last year’s Uttarakhand floods,” he said.

“The journalists who went to the disaster-struck area in Army aircraft did a public relations job for the government, praising the efforts of the Army. Chief Minister Omar Abdulla was also a failure as he was less interested in disaster management’, he said.
