THRISSUR: Organ donation has to be promoted in a big way in the country by converting it as a movement, according to Union Minister for Health Dr Harsh Vardhan. He was inaugurating  the  ‘Ma Nishada’ (do not kill) awareness rally of the Kidney Federation of India here on Saturday. A cycle rally proclaiming the ‘Ma Nishada rally’ was flagged off by city police commissioner Jacob Job  at Thekkinkau Maidan.  The rally that begins from Kasargod  on September 25 will conclude at Thiruvanthapuram on November 1.

The rally is being organised to create awareness against any form of torture,  murder, suicide, foeticide, road mishaps, violence against women and children and drug abuse. It  also aims at providing succour and palliative care to the victims of violence and their families, said Mr Davis Chirammel, chairman of the Kidney Federation of India. He would also fast throughout the rally as part of his attempt to spread the principle of non-violence, he added.
