Coimbatore: An unattended bag at Coimbatore airport and an anonymous threatening call triggered tension at the airport and kept Coimbatore city police on their toes on Saturday morning.
Coimbatore city police control room received a call from an unidentified person at around 3.45 am on Saturday. The caller claimed that a bag suspected to be containing explosives was lying in the car parking area of the airport complex. It could blow up the airport anytime, the caller warned, and hung up.
Immediately, the control room alerted the Peelamedu police who rushed to the airport along with a bomb disposal squad.
A bag was lying abandoned at the airport complex. However, it was found to be empty. “Some passenger could have discarded an empty bag there,” the police said. They are trying to track down the anonymous caller who sparked tension at the airport on Saturday.
