Tirumala: As a prelude to the nine day mega religious fete of Srivari Brahmotsavam, Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams is all set to perform the temple cleansing ritual of Koil Alwar Tirumanjanam at the hill shrine of Lord Venkateswara at Tirumala on September 23.Koil Alwar Tirumanjanam is a periodical festival, which is usually performed four times a year ahead of the four important annual festivals including Ugadi, Aniv-ara Asthanam, Vaikunta Ekadasi and the annual Brahmotsavam at Tirumala.
 
During the temple cleansing ritual, the main deity is wrapped up with a water-proof covering and all the sub-idols inside the sanctum sanctorum are removed. The entire temple is thoroughly pumped with water and smeared with herbal paste containing a rich mixture of high-quality sandalwood powder, refined camphor, turmeric, saffron, vermillion and other herbal ingredients with aromatic flavours.
 
It is applied to all the walls and pillars inside the temple besides the sub-temples inside the main temple complex.Meanwhile, in view of the Koil Alwar Tirumanjanam, the TTD has cancelled all arjitha sevas at the Tirumala temple on Tuesday.
