Class 10 student kills self
15-year-old is daughter of Coast Guard official
Chennai: The 15-year-old daughter of a Coast Guard official allegedly committed suicide by hanging on Sunday when her parents were away, at her house in Raghupathi Nagar in Nanganallur. The girl, Anukumari, a class 10 student in KV Pazhavanthagal, was found dead in the house around 9.30 pm when her father Surendrakumar, a CG official, and his wife returned home. Anukumari was the only daughter of the couple.
After initial inquiry, the police said the girl had been upset for the last couple of days. She was scared to go to school on Monday to collect her progress report along with her father as she had skipped the school examination conducted on September 12. She had skipped social studies examination paper on that day, police enquiries revealed.
On Sunday evening, she refused to accompany her parents when they went out, saying that she was not well. She seems to have decided to end her life before her parents returned. “It looks as if she was scared to tell her parents that she had not taken one examination. The scare of a scolding from them seems to have forced her to take the extreme step,” the Pazhavanthangal police said. She has not left behind any suicide note, the police added.
