CB-CID seeks custody of milk scam kingpin
The court is expected to take a decision on this on Tuesday
Chennai: The CB-CID approached a court in Villupuram on Monday, seeking one week’s custody of Vaidyanathan, a former AIADMK party functionary-cum-businessman who acted as the kingpin in the Aavin milk adulteration scam. The court is expected to take a decision on this on Tuesday. Vaidyanathan was arrested by investigators on Friday evening and remanded in judicial custody.
CB-CID sources said they were also on the look-out for his wife who helped him in the business of transporting milk from other districts to Aavin’s Chennai facilities. The adulteration scam came to light when the Villupuram police, a month ago, arrested eight people for stopping a milk tanker transporting milk from Tiruvannamalai to Chennai at Tindivanam, stealing 1,800 litres of milk from it and replacing it with water.
The case was then transferred to the CB-CID to probe the larger angle and investigation found bigger people involved in the racket. Vaidyanathan was a close aide of a former state minister, sources added. Thousands of litres of milk stolen were reportedly sold to private dairies by the racketeers.
