Sheladia, a US-based consulting firm has been hired to design internal road for Karimnagar city
Karimnagar: Sheladia, a US-based consulting firm has been hired to design and  provide technical specifications in order to give a facelift to the internal roads of the city. The firm has come up a tentative layout of the roads. The state government has already sanctioned Rs46 crore towards  improvement of the roads. Karimnagar MLA Gangula Kamalakar said that the firm will also supervise the construction of the roads.  In order to use services of the firm, the government paid Rs 27 lakh as consultancy fee.

After considering the design proposed by the firm, the cost of the internal roads has been increased to Rs 60 crore from the earlier estimates of Rs 46 crore. Mr Kamalakar is trying to get the remaining funds as Rs46 crore has  already been sanctioned.

The MLA claimed that the roads would have unprecedented features. Usually, roads are dug for a variety of  purposes such as for laying networks of communication and pipelines for providing drinking water and  drainage systems.

But, the new roads will contain spaces to be used for any purpose in the future.   Similarly, the roads will consist of robust blacktops and low power consuming central lighting system. The  two-metre-long footpaths, which would be constructed on either side of the roads, can be used for renting to  fruit and vegetable vendors including some roadside businesses. Thus menace of hawkers in the city can be overcome.

The city's major stretches, which undergo the facelift, included: from Kaman to Telangana Padmanagar  Colony, from Roads and Buildings Guest House to Saleh Nagar, from Civil Hospital to Apollo Reach  Hospital, from Mancherial Chowrasta to Naka Chowrasta. In addition, internal roads of the city would also  be improved.
