Movie review ‘Loukyam’: It’s a routine comedy
Director Srivaas came up with a routine story and it is entertaining
Director: Srivaas
Cast: Gopichand, Rakul Preet Singh, Brahmanandam, Chandra Mohan and Sampath
Rating: Three stars
Actor Gopichand has been looking for a good break for the past few years. After more than a year he came up with ‘Loukyam’ and this time he signed up for a comedy film rather than his usual action films. Rakul Preet Singh is the female lead, while Srivaas is the director.
In the film, Venky (Gopichand) is a happy-go-lucky guy, who gets on the bad side of a don, Babji (Sampath), after he helps Babji’s sister elope with her boyfriend. An angry Babji looks out for Venky, who dwells in Hyderabad in a friend’s room. It was love at first sight for Venky when he met Chandrakala (Rakul Preet). Interestingly he discovers that Chandrakala is another sister of Babji. On the other hand another goon, Keshav (Mukesh Rishi), sends his men to kill Chandrakala.
Keshav’s reason for killing the girl, the rivalry between him and Babji, and how Venky finally comes out as a winner is the crux of the story.
Director Srivaas came up with a routine story which is an entertaining one. The good thing is that Gopichand mostly comes up with action films, but in this film, Srivaas has portrayed him very differently, which is a great success. The director can handle the subject well, even though it’s a predictable story. Kona Venkat and Gopi Mohan who were involved in the screenplay have once again come up with similar dialogues from their earlier films ‘Ready’ and ‘Dhee’.
When it comes to the performance it’s Gopichand who steals the show. He has carried the film on his shoulders. He has put efforts especially for the comical scenes. Rakul Preet is another find for this film. She is pretty and looks very beautiful in the film. Also her performance is neat and she has played her part well. Once again Brahmanandam played a crucial role as Sippy in this film. For him this is another routine film, but he provided a few laughs especially with Chandra Mohan and Hamsa Nandini.
The highlight of the film is Prithvi, who steals the show with his performance as a rising star. Especially in the climax, he is the source of all the hilarious comedy. Sampath, Mukhesh Rishi and Rahul Dev as baddies did their job. Chandra Mohan and Raghu Babu have also come up with a few laughs. Hamsa Nandini provided the glamour quotient. Anoop Rubens provided good music and the songs are nice and also shot well. Vetri captures some beautiful locales and overall the cinematography is good.
Finally, the story is as said earlier routine, predictable and nothing new, but the only savinggrace at this point is the comedy. ‘Loukyam’ is an entertainer. Watch it for Gopichand and the hilarious comedy by Pruthvi and Brahmanandam.
