To mark the 108th birth anniversary of Marxist leader B. Sreenivasa Rao, the comrades have organised a series of protests against various untouchability practices across the state, including the ‘haircut protest' in Virudhunagar and Thanjavur. (
Chennai: State CPI(M) leaders  have announced a protest of a different kind. On September 30, they will take groups of young Dalit men in Virudhunagar and Thanjavur districts to have a hair cut and shave in saloons that have been refusing to serve them for several years. 
 
To mark the 108th birth anniversary of Marxist leader B. Sreenivasa Rao, the comrades have organised a series of protests against various untouchability practices across the state, including the ‘haircut protest’ in Virudhunagar and Thanjavur.
 
Talking about this novel agitation, Tamil Nadu Untouchability Eradication Front (TNUEF) general secretary K. Samuel Raj said, “We hope that the message will sink in their minds and the saloon owners will stop discrimination against Dalits. We have identified almost 2,000 saloons where Dalits are not given haircuts.”
 
State president P. Sampath of TNUEF said the CPI(M) office was torched by the upper caste people when they attempted to enter  Draupathi Amman temple in Pudhucherry recently. “Along with Dalits, our party men will lead the temple entry on September 30,” he said.
