Rajahmundry: Even as a large number of devotees are getting ready to celebrate the nine days Dasara festivities beginning from Thursday, they are a disappointed lot as the temples are bereft of Utsav Committees following the recent direction from the state government abolishing such committees in the state.
Several thousands of temples falling under the purview of endowments department are not having any Utsav Committees following the order, to make arrangements for the Dasara festivities.
A utsav committee of a temple will be having the local MLA and other public representatives and leaders having service motto as its members while the temple executive officer will serve as a convenor of the panel.
This committee comes up with plans for arrangements for Dasara festivities in the temple. But in the absence of such committee, it will be difficult to organise the things in a planned manner. However, the state government has given a relief by saying that a ‘Seva Committee’ can be formed in the place of Utsav Committee on an ad hoc basis.
Endowments deputy commissioner G. Suribabu confirms it by saying that all temples falling under endowments purview are not having any Utsav Committees at present as they were abolished in the state and he admitted by saying that it is difficult to make proper arrangements in their absence.
