Youth Congress activists clash with police in New Delhi
The youth had gathered for a 'Jan Akrosh' rally
New Delhi: The Youth Congress on Thursday staged a protest against the alleged failure of the Narendra Modi government in meeting the poll promises and were later lathicharged by the police when they made a bid to march towards Parliament.
Nearly 150 workers were detained at Jantar Mantar after they clashed with the police.
Youth from 22 states across the country had gathered in the national capital for the ‘Jan Akrosh Rally’, which was called by the Congress to expose the “failures” of NDA government.
Police had to resort to a mild lathicharge after the protesters, who had come for the rally at around 11 am, tried to march towards Parliament by breaching police barricades on Parliament Street.
The protesters were detained and taken to police station. They were later released, police said.
“The aim of the rally was to expose the failures of the Modi government. Non-fulfillment of promises and hoodwinking the Indian voter in the name of re-packaging of UPA schemes,” the Youth Congress said.
