Mumbai: She started off as the sweet Sadhana in Bidaai but over the years actress Sara Khan seems to have become a magnet for controversies. Right from marrying her ex-husband Ali Merchant on Bigg Boss and following it up with the ugly divorce drama soon after, to intimate photos with current boyfriend Paras Chhabra going viral, and then a lip-lock with co-actress Pratyusha Banerjee making news, Sarah’s real life seems way more dramatic than an average television soap.
Sara, however, feels that no matter how bold she gets, both on and off-screen, she can still pull off a docile role like Sadhana with ease. She says, “Bidaai has given me the platform where I stand today. I would be thrilled if I get to work in its sequel too, but at the moment I am being careful about the projects I am venturing into. Presently, I am very happy doing good episodic shows like Yeh Hai Aashiqui. It gives me creative satisfaction.”
The actress will soon be seen on the show in an episode that addresses the issue of inter-caste marriages. In real life too, Sara is dating Paras, who belongs to another religion. She says she has managed to convince her family about the relationship.
“I strongly believe that love as an emotion is sufficient for a girl and a boy to be together and these societal norms like caste, creed or religion are all man-made. Since childhood, I have always followed my heart. Initially my parents were conservative about the whole inter-caste thing, but over time I have managed to change their thinking. In the same way, I hope that with my upcoming episode of Yeh Hai Aashiqui, I am able to bring about a similar kind of change in the mindset of conservative Indians.”
Sara continues on her ideas about love, “Marriage is again a man-made custom for the society to accept a relationship. But for me, the moment you lose your heart to someone and you solely want to be with that person, that’s marriage. When it comes to the qualities that I look for in a partner, I’d say looks are a factor but the inner beauty is more important as it adds to the personality. Being respectful towards others and a loving and caring nature are some qualities I admire. But more importantly, he should pamper me and treat me like a princess.”
The actress adds that she isn’t apologetic about her bold image and she feels that women shouldn’t be judged by the way they dress. “According to me this thought itself showcases a person’s illiteracy. I believe no one has the right to judge anyone on the basis of their looks, appearance or dressing sense.”
