The clean up initiative has been taken to make Coimbatore clean city

Coimbatore: District collector Archana Patnaik, corporation commissioner S. Ganesh and numerous government officials wielded brooms for a cause.They came  together here on Friday to clean up the district collector’s office in Coimbatore. The clean up initiative is likely to cover all other government offices, schools and public places in the coming days to make Coimbatore a cleaner city.
 
“Around eight loads of garbage including dried trees, building debris and other waste that were piled up for several years were removed on a day long cleaning campaign,” said Tha. Murugan, additional director, District Rural Development Agency of collectorate. After the clean up drive, the next move is to beautify the collectorate campus by drawing paintings conveying the achievements of the state government. “The walls have been littered with posters, which would be removed and painted with messages on better hygiene practices and the government’s welfare initiatives,” Mr Tha Murugan said.
 
Thereafter, the collectorate would be given a new look with a sanitation park. “It will have different models of sanitary practices like baby friendly toilets, gender friendly toilets, eco-sanitary system, and safe disposal practice of napkins. To be built on 20 cents of land, it will also have posters and messages on better sanitation practices to create awareness among the public visiting the collectorate,” he said.
 
Around 200 college students took part in the day long clean up campaign. The police restricted the entry of vehicles into the collectorate to help volunteers undertake the cleaning activity.
