Mayawati, Mulayam Singh Yadav, Mamata Banerjee on alert
The Naveen Patnaik government in Odisha is also facing the heat of the chit fund scam
New Delhi: With the session’s court convicting the AIADMK supremo and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalitha in a DA case, alarm bells have started ringing in various political camps ranging from BSP supremo Mayawati, SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav to Trinamul in West Bengal and also the ruling BJD in Odisha.
While both Ms Mayawati and Mr Yadav and his family members had been embroiled in legal battles pertaining to DA cases for several years, Mamata Banerjee’s party is currently reeling under the Sharada chit fund scam. The Naveen Patnaik government in Odisha is also facing the heat of the chit fund scam. With Assembly elections slated to be held in West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh in 2016 and 2017 respectively, the ruling parties could possibly get into shaky grounds.
However, legal sources said, fresh probes could be initiated against the UP satraps, as it has already happened in the case of Ms Mayawati. The Supreme Court has recently served a notice to the CBI and Ms Mayawti seeking their replies on a petition urging apex court’s direction to lodge fresh FIR in a DA case against her. On the other hand, as chit fund probe has gathered pace, it’s going to be tough time for Ms Banerjee and Mr Patnaik.
