Students raise Rs11 lakh to save classmate
The students hit the road and pooled money for the surgery but in vain

Nellore: The II year Electronic and Communication Engineering students of Narayana Engineering College in Gudur are in a deep depression following the death of their classmate M. Gowthami of Avilala near Tirupati.The students tried their best to save Gowthami, who was diagnosed with bone marrow two weeks ago, but she breathed her last at CMC Hospital in Vellore, Tamil Nadu on Saturday.
The students hit the road and pooled nearly Rs11 lakh for the surgery during last two weeks. The students led by their classmates Sugandhi and Arjun collected donations and organised a musical night at Gudur to raise the funds.
The head of ECE department K. Vishwaksena Reddy said the students voluntarily came forward to raise funds when mother of Gowthami told them about their inability to support for her treatment.He said that he went to the hospital few days ago and told the doctors that they are ready to bear the expenses for the surgery.
According to Mr Vishwa-ksena Reddy, the doctors tested the blood of Gow-thami’s brother for bone marrow transplant but it did not match with her.The doctors were planning to carryout chemo therapy if her parent’s blood also fails to match. But she passed away even before the surgery. Mr Reddy said that they are unable to console the students especially Arjun and Sugandhi who spent sleepless nights to mobilise funds to support for her treatment.
