Mother kills daughter due to 'mental stress'

KANNUR: The mental stress of a mother led to the murder of her five-year-old daughter in the quarters of Indian Naval Academy (INA), Ezhimala, on Friday night.

The woman  Mamatha Rathee, 27, wife of  Sunil Rathee, a pharmacist in the naval hospital at INA, confessed to the crime to the police who arrested her on Saturday.

The Alakode police produced her at Payyannur first class judicial magistrate court and sought her custody for further questioning.

According to police, the three-month-old pregnant woman hailing from Garhar village in Haryana slit the throat of her daughter Divya,5, on her birthday.

Her husband had gone to the hospital after making all arrangements to celebrate the birthday.

When he returned by late evening, he found the girl  lying in a pool of blood on the cot in the bedroom.

Though she was rushed to the  hospital,  doctors declared her brought dead.
