CoimbatoreHuge loads of poultry waste were found dumped in the Vellalalore dumpyard on Sunday. After members of the Kurichi Vellalore Pollution Prevention Action Committee raised the issue, corporation officials disposed of the waste by burying it in a pit.

Residents had gone to check the source of the strong and unbearable stench that emanated from the dumpyard in the morning, when the issue came to light.

"There were around 225 bags of poultry waste dumped at the yard. As it was poultry waste, hundreds of crows had gathered at the spot to feed on it," said Mr K.S. Mohan, secretary of the Kurichi Vellalore Pollution Prevention Action Committee.

On receiving information, corporation officials rushed to the spot and buried the waste in a pit after spraying a disinfectant. Residents of Vellalore are fighting a long-drawn battle to shift the dumpyard from their residential neighbourhood.
