Modi was nothing less than a celebrity when he walked into the Madison Square Garden. With emotional appeals and promises of action, Modi urged thousands of Indian-Americans to help him develop the nation's economy, vowing that under his leadership, India won't look back.

Modi drew on the mix of high aspirations and homespun style that served him well on the campaign trail when he won a convincing election victory in May.

Earlier, in June this year, Modi had made a silly slip while addressing the Bhutan Parliament.

During his address Modi said ‘Nepal’ instead of ‘Bhutan’ while hailing the country’s royal family.
