Mysore: To provide comfort and round-the-clock protection to VVIP prisoner and former Tamil Nadu chief minister J. Jayalalithaa, a woman official from the Mysore central prison has been summoned on special duty by prison officials at the Parappana Agrahara.

The officer, Divyashree, is a superintendent at the Mysore central prison. Ms Jayalalithaa was convicted in a disproportionate assets case by a special court in Bengaluru.

Sources told Deccan Chronicle that the decision was taken after Ms Jayalalithaa raised objection over male policemen entering women’s barracks. The jail authorities need to provide fool-proof protection as she is a VIP prisoner and has threat perception. There is also a need for supervision round the clock because of a heavy rush of her loyalists from Tamil Nadu to meet her. Ms Divyashree has already reached Parappan Agrahara jail as per the directions of her superior officials.

A top official in Parappana Agrahara prison, however, said it is a routine procedure. “A woman officer has been deployed to provide protection and to have better communication with Ms Jaya lalithaa. It is a part of the security arrangements provided to Ms. Jayalalithaa,” the official said.
