Hyderabad: Fissures between doctors of the two states have deepened with the Telangana arm of the IMA lashing out at its Andhra counterpart. The Telangana adhoc committee of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has condemned the charges of manhandling IMA Andhra branch me-mbers against renowned nephrologist and Telangana agitation spearhead Dr A. Gopal Kishan.

The adhoc committee also said they had filed contempt of court proceedings against IMA Andhra branch for forming another Telangana adhoc committee against the previous ruling of another civil court. Defamation suits have also been filed against IMA national president and members of the IMA Andhra branch.

IMA Telangana adhoc committee members said that a show cause notice to Dr Gopal Kishan, who is also the chairman of the adhoc committee, was sent by IMA secretary-general Dr Narendra Saini that the former had misbehaved and manhandled a senior member of the IMA. The complaint was filed by another senior member of the IMA, Dr P. Pulla Rao. The adhoc committee has refuted all these charges calling them motivated, prejudiced and false.

“The show cause notice is totally uncalled for and damaging the image of Dr Gopal Kishan. This may be construed as an insult to Telangana as Dr Gopal Kishan is a strong protagonist for the formation of Telangana state from 1969 till it was formed on June 2,” the adhoc committee said in a statement.

Members said that they are in process of preparing their own constitution and suggestions are being sought from doctors of all the 10 districts of Telangana. The adhoc committee also sought copies of the original complaint filed by Dr Pulla Rao and sought an unconditional apology.

“This is a conspiracy by the IMA Andhra branch and henchmen of Dr Appa Rao. They formed an adhoc committee for Telangana and tried to conduct elections in Vijayawada. Vijayawada is not even in Telangana so how can they do it? They are attempting to control the Telangana branch of IMA,” said adhoc committee convenor Dr L. Surender Reddy.
