Telugu interface to be mandatory for e- government projects in Andhra Pradesh
A Centre of Excellence for Telugu in digital media will also be set up

Vijayawada: AP state government has decided to make Telugu interface mandatory for all e-government projects. According to the Information Technology department officials, the Telugu interface will be
made available on all access devices, including mobile phones.
Official said by 2019, 80 per cent of G2C (government to citizen) and G2B (government to business) will be on compulsory Telugu interface. A Centre of Excellence for Telugu in digital media will also be set up.
“AP has come with a comprehensive policy on localisation of all digital services and mandating a Telugu interface for all citizens and businesses facing electronic interactions. With the appropriate technical core team available, AP can straightaway adopt all standards that have been developed at national level. AP will collaborate with the Government of India and CDAC to develop the tools for Telugu language,” said an official of the IT department.
With Google India MD Rajan Anandan announcing that Google will focus on Telugu font and Telugu internet, the proposed Telugu interface project of AP will get a fillip.
“A centre of excellence to be started in one of the premier engineering colleges,with the assistance of GoI. A well-calibrated schedule of mandating Telugu interface in all e-gov projects will be made part of the policy. The overall goal can be that by 2019, 80 per cent of all G2C and G2B interfaces shall be in Telugu.”
A large programme of dissemination of awareness and tools to the citizens and to software developers may be taken up.
Government is also aiming that the research and implementation efforts in Telugu language technologies will also generate employment opportunities in various fields.
