Ongole-Kurnool road widening is all set to be completed in two-months

Ongole Municipal Corporation (OMC) proposed to widen the existing 28 feet Kothapatnam road to a 40-feet road for the free flow of the traffic
Ongole: The Ongole Municipal Corporation (OMC) proposed to widen the existing 28 feet Kothapatnam road to a 40-feet road for the free flow of the traffic. The officials of the town planning department will conduct a survey and prepare a plan for the road widening and which will be submitted to the higher officials for taking further action. After getting nod, the OMC will take up the road widening.
 
In order to widen the road, the OMC has to acquire the land from the house owners and pay huge compensation to them. Sources in the OMC said that at least '3 crore is required for widening the road which will take some more time.Though the Ongole Municipal Corporation has a proposal to widen the existing Kothapatnam road, it has been delayed due to resource crunch. The OMC has a proposal to widen the Trunk Road, but the traders are opposing the road widening and mounting pressure on the people’s representatives to stop road widening.
 
Ongole Municipal Corporation town planning officer P. Sambaiah said, “We have a proposal to widen the Kothapatnam road from Masthan Dargah to Kothapatnam bus stand. The traders are opposing to widen the Trunk Road. There is a need to widen the road.”
 
OMC deputy executive engineer K. Gopal said, “The OMC will complete the 1 km Ongole-Kurnool road widening works within two months. We will construct the road dividers on the Kurnool-Ongole road and set up central lighting very soon and so far we have completed 90 per cent of the road widening works. With the co-operation of the other departments we will soon shift the telephone and electricity poles very soon. If the road is completed, the traffic will flow smoothly.”
