TDP leaders installed the statue of Gandhi with their own funds at GVMC ward office
Visakhapatnam: Minister for HRD Ganta Srinivasa Rao unveiled Mahatma Gandhi’s statue at Sagarnagar on Thursday.
Local Telugu Desam leaders installed the statue with their own funds at GVMC ward office.
Mr Srinivasa Rao, who participated in the event, appealed the people to remember the great sacrifice of Bapu and follow his path.
Further, the Andhra University celebrated the birth anniversary of Mahatma and 8th International Day of Non-Violence with enthusiasm.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. G.S.N. Raju, who launched the celebrations, described Mahatma as world leader and his ideals are still relevant. He also said that the non-violence, peace and truth propagated by him have become the torchbearer for all the nations.
Launching the Swachh Bharath programme in the university campus, Prof. Raju said that Mahatma Gandhi advocated personal hygiene besides community hygiene and cleanliness to make India more vibrant and progressive.
Prof. A.B.S.V. Ranga Rao, director of the centre for Gandhian Studies, said that the centre has published a good number of research works on Gandhian relevance to present day’s social, economic, political, cultural and communication world.
The vice-chancellor garlanded the statue of Mahatma Gandhi and offered floral tributes. He inaugurated a Photo Exhibition on Mahatma Gandhi organised by G.K. Subrahmanyam, a winner of Limca Book of World Records.
