Station house officer suspended for sexist behaviour
Maheswar was known for his gender insensitivity and notorious for his sexist remarks
Hyderabad: The police commissioner suspended a station house officer following a complaint of sexual assault
“We had received a complaint from a woman police officer, who alleged sexual harassment at the work place. Uma Maheswar, the SHO of Abids, is the accused in the complaint. An inquiry has been launched and the officer has been suspended,” said additional commissioner of police Anjani Kumar.
The victim alleged that Mr Maheswar had been harassing her constantly and had threatened her not to reveal it to anyone. Fearing for her job, she did not report it to higher officials for a while. However, she later approached the police commissioner and lodged a complaint. Sources from the police department said that Mr Maheswar was known for his gender insensitivity in the department and was notorious for his sexist remarks and chauvinist behaviour with women subordinates in the department.
After the inquiry, he is likely to be booked for sexual offence.
