Khammam: The loan waiver is likely to be delayed by more than a month as the government understands that it needs to go for field checking before depositing the waiver amount into the accounts of the beneficiaries. The government had identified 3.5 lakh farmers eligible for loan waiver of the total 5.5 lakh ryots in Khammam district.
The revenue officials informed the government authorities that they would be able to crosscheck the details of only 10,000 farmers a day and that it woul take at least 35 working days to complete the task.
The revenue officials will have to check if the identified farmer, who is going to be benefited by the scheme has land in the said village and if the survey number and name provided match with that provided to them.
The government had estimated that Rs1,711 crore would be needed to waive the total loan amount of the 3.5 lakh farmers in Khammam district. But, it had been decided that only 25 per cent of the loan amount would be cleared in the first phase of the scheme. For this, a total of Rs 427 crore has been released. The farmers can get fresh crop loans from banks only after the government deposits the entire loan amounts into their accounts.
The job of clearing the loans availed of by farmers from each bank has been entrusted to teams, specially constituted for the purpose, which would be headed by district-level officials. It means crop loan accounts pertaining to Grameena Vikas Bank will be monitored by a district-level official and that relating to other banks by different officials. However, officials are planning to complete the works as early as possible and give the much needed relief to the farmers who are reeling under losses due to drought conditions.
