Sexually assaulted 3-yr-old girl dies in Kovai hospital

Coimbatore: A 3-year-old girl from Uttar Pradesh who was sexually assaulted by a plus-two boy last month in Tirupur died at a private hospital in Coimbatore on Friday.
The 17-year-old boy has been arrested under sections 5 and 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act for allegedly committing "penetrative sexual assaut on the child" and sent to a juvenile home in Tirupur. The offence attracts 10 years rigorous imprisonment or a life sentence too.
Daughter of a carpenter from Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh who has settled in Tirupur, the little girl was apparently suffering from blood cancer. Soon after the sexual assault by her teen neighbour in Gandhi Nagar in Tirupur on September 17 evening, she developed high fever and was rushed to a private hospital in Tirupur.
Her health worsened and she was shifted to a private hospital at Peelamedu here on Friday. Around 6 am, the girl died without responding to treatment. Tirupur city police commissioner S..N Seshasai said the boy has been arrested for sexual assault. However, the exact cause of death will be known only after post-mortem.
According to the girl's parents, the accused had taken the child to his house around 6 pm on September 17 when she was playing outside her house. The child's mother was preparing dinner when she heard the wails of her daughter. The child was in a distraught condition and reportedly told the mother that the teenaged boy had ‘harmed’ her.
The girl's body was sent to Coimbatore medical college and hospital (CMCH) for post-mortem.
