AIADMK cadres sign petition with blood for release of Jayalalithaa
Over 2500 cadres have so far signed the petitions with their blood
Chennai: Stepping up their ‘Gandhian’ agitation to secure the release of party supremo Jayalalithaa, several AIADMK members on Friday used their blood to sign petitions to the President of India and TN Governor K. Rosaiah to intervene and get justice for her.
“Our Amma has been convicted and jailed in illegal and unfair manner. We will fight in peaceful manner until she returns home,” said T. Nagar legislator V. P. Kalairajan, who led the novel protest programme which he has named as Raktha Kaiyezhuthu Iyakkam (blood signature movement) by being the first to affix the ‘bloody’ signature on the petition.
“We engaged some doctors and nurses to draw blood from us. About ten ml was taken from me, which I used to paint my signature on the petitions to the President and the Governor. We intend to present these petitions on October 7, when Amma’s appeal is coming up before the Karnataka high court,” Kalairajan told Deccan Chronicle.
He said over 2500 have so far signed the petitions using their blood. “We will be collecting thousands of such signatures in blood from the public,” said the MLA, claiming that Subash Chandra Bose inspired his campaign.
“Bose had said ‘give me signatures in blood and not in ink and I will secure freedom for India’. We are conducting our blood iyakkam to secure Amma’s freedom,” he said. Earlier, he organised a Navachandi homam, which lasted three hours at the Ayodhya Mandapam with 50 purohits chanting the slokams seeking divine intervention to get Jayalalithaa released.
