Cops torture teen, fabricate case
‘He slapped me; he hit me so hard’
THRISSUR: A 14-year-old school student, who was mistakenly picked up in a handbag theft case, alleged that he was brutally tortured a by cop, who was not on duty, on Wednesday evening. Though he was released, the student lodged a petition with the police who refused to take action.
The student was attending a cultural event in a temple near here. When a woman raised a complaint that her bag had been stolen, the cop abused and tortured the boy in a bid to make him admit to the crime. The police released the student with an order that he would have to appear whenever he was called. However, the bag was recovered from the woman’s residence on Thursday morning.
The victim’s parents later took him to hospital. "He slapped me. He hit me so hard.
All I felt was pain”, the boy said about his ordeal. While the police refused to provide justice to the victim, the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) intervened in the issue on Friday. CWC chairman P.O.George, who met the victim in hospital said he had injuries. The City Police Commissioner said: "I have ordered an inquiry into the incident and asked Peramangalam Circle Inspector to submit a report as early as possible.” A resident of Thoppuparambu near Viyyur, the boy is a class nine student. However, Haridas, the cop accused, has denied the charges against him.
