Chennai: Governor K. Rosaiah extended his condolences on the death of industrialist and former MLA, Pollachi Dr N. Mahalingam on Friday. In a statement, the Governor said Mahalingam was known for his simplicity, humaneness and was a pious person who had contributed a lot for the promotion of moral and spiritual values.

DMK president M. Karunanidhi recalled that Mahalingam lived by the ideals of non-violence and honesty, the principles followed by Mahatma Gandhi. Expressing grief over his death, TNCC president B.S. Gnanadesikan said Mahalingam had worked closely with Congress veterans, the late K. Kamaraj and C. Subramaniam, and added that his death was an “irreversible loss”.

Senior BJP leader and party’s national executive member L. Ganesan, condoled the industrialist’s death and said he had left his impression on many spheres of life, including politics and science.

Former Union minister G.K. Vasan, and CPM politburo member T.K. Rangarajan also extended their condolences on the death of the chairman of the over '5,000 crore Sakthi Group of Companies and Anamalais Bus Transport Ltd (ABT Services).
