Shoot, scoot, Ram Gopal Varma at it again
After being slammed for his film’s “vulgar” poster, RGV is in the news once again
Mumbai: In showbiz, nothing is worse than “not being in the news”, and that’s what filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma seems to abide by, good or bad, be in the news.
The latest controversy is his film titled Savitri. Barely did he announce the name, another filmmaker Neelima Tirumallasetti objected, saying she had registered the title much earlier for her film.
So RGV immediately released new film posters with the name changed to Sridevi! The filmmaker released a note on Sunday saying, “I want to share some happy news with all of you. Due to some reasons, I have now changed the title of my film from Savitri to Sridevi.”
“Now, the film will release as Ram Gopal Varma’s Sridevi,” the note read.
But he didn’t address the suo motu cased filed against him by the State Commission for protection of Child Rights, that states the poster is vulgar, it depicts a young boy staring at the bare midriff of a woman and in violation of child rights.
He didn’t respond to calls or messages. A source close to Ram Gopal Varma says the filmamker enjoys being controversial, whether it’s tweeting about Lord Ganesha, or rubbing Karan Johar the wrong side...
Sadly, it’s been over a decade since his film was a super hit, rumour is he’s in huge debts owes Mumbai film financiers a lot of money, which is why he’s mostly in Hyderabad these days, making
small-time Telugu films. Luckily for Ram Gopal Varma, down South he has few good friends and admirers. Producer Puri Jagannath is believed to be taking care of RGV’s stay in the city, and the Manchu’s, Mohan Babu’s family have faith in his directing skills, and have plans of making more films with him.
Suresh Babu, film producer
“I had registered the title Savitri for a movie with Teja. Later, a producer came to me for the title to whom I sold it. I don’t know when the title was transferred to Neelima Tirumallasetti. This is not the first time that there is a controversy about a title. Sometimes the mistake happens unintentionally.”
Pavan Sadineni, director
“I respect RGV as a film maker. He has his own touch for every film he makes. When he made Siva, people watched. People also went to watch Ice Cream. Now people will go to see Sridevi. He might be in to a controversy for his posters, but RGV has his audience,” says Pavan, who will be directing Savitri produced by Neelima Tirumallasetti. The title row was due to a miscommunication between the Film Chamber and the producer of Sridevi.”
