Rajahmundry: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu plans to revive the Sari-Dhoti scheme to promote usage of handloom fabrics and thus help handloom weavers improve their earnings.

The Chief Minister hit upon this idea while handing over the pension to an aged handloom weaver at Janmabhoomi Maa Vooru programme at Nagaram village of Kapileswarapuram mandal in East Godavari on Saturday. The beneficiary named Gudimetla Naga Basava Lingam thanked the CM for enhancing the pension to Rs 1,000 and said that the Sari-Dhoti scheme, launched by the previous TD regime, led by late NTR, helped them earn good revenue. The CM said that the present TD government would restore the past glory of the handloom industry soon and announced that the state would provide 30% subsidy on yarn and other requisite paraphernalia to promote it in a big way.
