Crackers worth Rs3.5 lakh were used to burn the Ravan idol

Warangal: The annual ‘Ravana Vadha’ (killing of Ravanasura) programme held at Rangleela Maidan on the outskirts of Warangal town by the Warangal Municipal Corporation (WMC) and Utsava Committ, witnessed a large crowd on Friday. The Ravana Vadha at this ground is next to that held in Mysore, in terms of grandeur, said a member of the Utsava committe . “It is the biggest event in the newly-formed Telangana,” he added.
 
As part of the Durga Navaratri celebrations, a huge idol of Ravana, made from cardboards, is erected and burnt with the help of crackers, as part of the event. This time, crackers worth Rs3.5 lakh were used to burn the idol.The idol was lit by elected representatives and the burning of the idol symbolised victory of good over evil. 
 
A group of artistes enacted ‘Ravanasura Vadha’ on the sprawling grounds.Deputy Chief Minister and Health Minister Dr. Thatikonda Rajaiah Warangal MP Kadiyam Sri Hari,  MLA (Warangal East) Konda Sureka and other public representatives participated in the event which was held on the grounds.
