Chandigarh/ Mumbai/BeedPrime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday kicked off his campaign for the Assembly elections in Haryana and Maharashtra by addressing rallies at Karnal in Haryana and at Beed,

Aurangabad and Mumbai in Maharashtra. Urging people in Haryana to vote for a change PM Modi said, “All the governments in the past have brought misery,  there is utter chaos in the state.” “Haryana ka bhagya badalna hai. Nirnay aap kijiye aur Haryana ka bhaagya badaliye. (Haryana’s fate will have to change.

The decision is in your hands),” Mr Modi said. “If you want peace, jobs and security, you must vote for BJP. The state must get rid of the Congress,” he told the gathering.

With no alliance partners in Haryana and BJP trying to get majority on its own in Haryana,  Mr Modi tried to make make an emotional connect with the locals saying that Harayana was instrumental in his formative years as he got his education and political training there.

Taking a dig at the Congress, he said, “If you want Haryana to develop, you will need a Congress mukt Haryana.”  “Those who did nothing in the last 60 years are asking for a report card of my work in the last few months. The polls will determine Haryana’s future. You must give clear majority to BJP,” Mr Modi said.

In Maharashtra,  the PM avoided mentioning former ally Shiv Sena, which has a strong presence in Mumbai city.
During his 40 minute speech at the jam packed Race Course ground at Mahalaxmi in Mumbai, the Prime Minister focused on the development of people living in slums keeping in view that a considerable population is forced to live in shanties and slums.

“We all are descendants of Shivaji Maharaj,” he said, clearly indicating to the Shiv Sena that the great Maratha was not theirs alone. The PM attacked  the NCP-Congress over “corruption.”
