Bengaluru: In order to curb crime and lawlessness in the city and help people come forward to provide information about the same, the police are planning to create a new website where one can post information about any criminal activity and the informer’s identity will kept secret. The website will be designed in such a way that the identity of the informer cannot accessed by others.

The police have come up with this idea to get more information from the public, who generally fear providing information about anti-social elements and hesitate to approach police. “Once the website is launched, people can easily post information and pass on the message to the police through website. Based on the information, the police will verify the information and take suitable action,” a senior police officer said.

On the website, people can post any information that requires police action, be it rowdy menace, harassment by auto drivers, usury by financiers, cricket betting and other offences. People can also post information, if any, regarding police harassment. The whole idea is to get information about anti-social activities in the city. It would also ease the burden of the police, who have to put lot of efforts to gather intelligence, to some extent, the officer added.

A team of policemen will be deputed to scan to the information posted on the site and all the information will be passed on the officers concerned on a priority basis. Then the police will verify the information and initiate action if required, the officer said.

When contacted, city Police Commissioner M N Reddi told Deccan Chronicle that the website will be launched in a week or two. “The name of the website is yet to be finalised. We are designing it in such a way that the identity of the people who post information cannot be tracked by others. Most importantly, the police are committed to ensure that the city is free from rowdies. Most of the people have information about rowdies, but they keep mum fearing consequences. The website will be a good platform for those who want to provide useful information to the police,” he said.
